How it works

Infacol colic relief drops work by helping the small trapped gas bubbles join into bigger bubbles, which your baby can easily bring up as wind – helping to relieve their pain and discomfort. Given before each feed, its clinically proven formula works progressively over several days. Continued usage may help to prevent a further build-up of wind.

Directions

The normal dose is one dropper full (0.5ml) given before each feed.

  1. Shake bottle.
  2. Draw up one dropper full by squeezing the rubber bulb twice. Wipe any excess into the bottle.
  3. To administer squeeze the bulb and release Infacol onto the back of the baby's tongue.

Infacol has a progressive effect, which means that it should be given to the baby for several days to achieve the best results. If the baby's colic hasn't improved after three to four days you can increase the dosage to two droppers full (1ml).

Please read the enclosed instructions for use before use. If symptoms do not improve, seek medical advice.

Pharmacist FAQs Answered

Can Infacol be given to newborns during birth?

Yes, Infacol can be given from birth onwards. It is specially made to be gentle and safe for newborn babies, including those only a few days old. The active ingredient, simeticone, is not absorbed into the body—it works in the gut to help release trapped gas. Always follow the dosage instructions carefully and give it before each feed. If you’re unsure whether your baby needs it, speak to your doctor, health visitor, or pharmacist first.

How quickly does Infacol act, and when can I see the difference?

Infacol usually starts to work within a few days, but relief can be sooner in some babies. It acts slowly as small bubbles of trapped gas join together to form larger ones, making it easier for your baby to burp. 3 to 4 days are normally when most parents see an improvement. If your baby's symptoms do not improve by this time, you can double the dose to two full droppers just before each feed. Always see your local healthcare professional if symptoms persist for longer than a week or worsen.

Can I use Infacol every day and for how long?

Yes, Infacil can be used daily before each feed, as long as your baby continues to experience colic symptoms. There is no maximum known duration for which it can be taken without any harmful effect. Nevertheless, it's wise to check your baby's state every so often. If your baby still needs Infacol after weeks, advise your doctor or health visitor that there may not be another reason for the symptoms. Take the product as recommended and do not exceed the dosage.

Can Infacol be taken with other medications or colic medication?

Infacol can be combined with other baby treatments, but be careful. Simeticone, the active ingredient, is not absorbed into the bloodstream, so it usually does not interact with other drugs. But if your baby is taking anything else, such as vitamins, iron drops, or prescribed medication, it's best to speak with your pharmacist first before giving Infacol at the same time. Do not use more than one colic medicine at a time unless your healthcare professional recommends it.

What are colic, wind, and reflux, and will Infacol treat them all?

Colic is when the baby cries a lot, typically at night, and seems difficult to soothe. Wind (or trapped gas) is a common cause of colic, and that is what Infacol acts against. Reflux is when milk regurgitates up into the throat or mouth, and may also lead to vomiting. Infacol helps with trapped wind and gas but will not treat reflux or other causes of tummy upset. If your baby is vomiting often, not feeding, or crying, speak to your doctor to eliminate reflux or other reasons.

Can Infacol be administered to a breastfed baby?

Infacol is safe with both formula and breast milk feeding. It works the same for all babies by helping to break up trapped wind, regardless of the milk they are having. Give it just before each feed by placing the liquid at the back of your baby's tongue. Infacol can help both breastfed, bottle-fed, or partially breastfed babies and can relieve crying and distress caused by colic.
