Product Summary

Lamisil AT 1% Gel contains the active ingredient terbinafine, an antifungal used to treat skin problems caused by fungi in:

Athlete’s foot (tinea pedis)

  • Athlete’s foot appears only on the feet (usually both, but not always), where it often appears in-between the toes.
  • It can also appear on the instep, soles, or other areas of the feet.
  • The most common type of athlete’s foot causes cracking or scaling of the skin, but you may also have mild swelling, blisters, or weeping ulcers.
  • Lamisil AT 1% Gel is recommended for athlete’s foot when it occurs between the toes.
  • If you have a fungal nail infection (fungus inside and under the nail) with discolouration of the nails and changes in nail texture (thick or flaky), you should consult your doctor. This is because Lamisil AT 1% Gel is not appropriate for this type of infection.

Dhobie itch/jock itch (tinea cruris)

  • Dhobie itch appears in the groin and inner thigh area, usually on both sides but often with one side more than the other, where it can spread further between the legs to the buttocks, or up towards the stomach.
  • Dhobie itch looks like a clearly bordered rash, which may have blisters.

Ringworm (tinea corporis)

  • Ringworm usually appears as circular, sharp-edged areas of red rash, with dry, scaly or crusty patches towards the edges.
  • Lamisil AT 1% Gel is suitable for ringworm occurring on the trunk of the body, legs, arm, neck or head, but not the face.

Ingredients

  • Active Ingredient: Terbinafine 1% w/w.
  • Other Ingredients: Water, ethanol, isopropyl myristate, polysorbate 20, carbomer, sorbitan laurate, benzyl alcohol, sodium hydroxide and butylated hydroxytoluene.

Pharmacist FAQs Answered

What is Lamisil AT Gel for the treatment of fungal infections?

Lamisil AT 1% Gel is an antifungal drug, terbinafine. Terbinafine inhibits the growth of fungi on your skin. Fungi need a special substance to grow and survive. Terbinafine blocks this substance, and the fungal cells die. This improves the itching, redness, and flaking of athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm on body, legs, arms, or neck.

How do I apply the gel safely and correctly?

Wash and dry the infected skin area carefully before you use the gel, especially between the toes or in folds of the skin. Use a thin gel layer once or twice a day, as your pharmacist advises. Massage it in and then wash your hands. Use the gel for as long as directed—usually one week for mild athlete's foot. Even though your skin may start looking better ahead of time, keep using it for the full length to stop the infection from returning.

Can I use this gel on my face, nails, or broken skin?

No. Lamisil AT 1% Gel is not for your face, nails, or broken skin. The alcohol in the gel can sting if your skin is open or cracked. Also, it is unsuitable for fungal nail infections, which are more embedded and need more potent medications, typically prescribed by a doctor. If you think the infection is on your face or nail, or you are unsure what the rash is, talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using anything.

What do I do if the gel stings or itches?

Some people may feel a mild sting, burning, or itch when applying the gel, especially if the skin is already sore. This usually goes away quickly and isn’t a reason to stop. But if your skin becomes red, swollen, blistered, or painful, stop using the gel and speak to your pharmacist. It could mean you’re reacting to an ingredient, such as butylated hydroxytoluene (E321), which can sometimes cause local irritation.

Can I use other creams or sprays on the same area?

Don't apply other creams, ointments, or sprays to the area you've treated with Lamisil Gel unless your doctor says it is okay. Other treatments might stop the gel from working correctly, or an allergic reaction may occur. If you are using a moisturising cream, put it on after the gel has completely dried, and apply it to other body parts if you can.

Can I use this gel during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

During pregnancy, consult your doctor before using Lamisil Gel. If you are breastfeeding, do not use it, especially over the chest, as the baby might be in contact with the gel. Recommend alternative medication if needed with your doctor or pharmacist.

If I miss the dose or complete treatment too soon?

If you forget to apply the gel, just apply it as soon as you remember. Do not double the amount as a substitute. If you stop treatment early, the fungus may not be totally cleared and may return worse. To get the best results, always finish the course, even if your skin feels and looks better within a few days.
