Pharmacist FAQs Answered
Can I take Piriteze if I have other illnesses?
Yes, but with caution. If you have some illnesses, you may need to take a lower dose or miss Piriteze altogether. People with kidney disease may not be able to get rid of the medicine from the body very well, so check with a doctor or pharmacist first. The same applies if you have epilepsy, an enlarged prostate, or are likely to have convulsions. These conditions can be affected by antihistamines. If you have been informed that you are intolerant to some sugars (such as lactose), consult your doctor since Piriteze has lactose in it. Always report all your conditions before taking this medicine.
Do Piriteze Allergy Tablets cause drowsiness or affect concentration?
Piriteze is a non-drowsy antihistamine, and most people don't feel drowsy after taking it. However, some users may still feel fatigued, especially if they are sensitive to antihistamines or combine it with other sedatives or alcohol. In rare cases, it will also cause dizziness or blurred vision. If you do feel sleepy after taking it, avoid driving, cycling, or operating machinery. Try taking your dose at bedtime if you experience sleepiness. If they bother you or last more than a few days, talk them over with your pharmacist for advice or alternatives.
Can I take Piriteze Allergy Tablets with other medicines?
Perhaps, but it depends on what else you're taking. Piriteze can interact with other medicines, especially those that work on the brain, e.g., anti-epileptics or anxiety and sleep medications. If you are taking any chronic prescription, over-the-counter, or herbal medicines, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using Piriteze to prevent side effects or a reduction in efficacy. Wait at least three days after stopping Piriteze before undergoing allergy skin testing, since it may affect test results. Do not start any new medication while using Piriteze until you've checked for possible interactions.
Is Piriteze safe to use in pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Piriteze can be taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if your doctor recommends that it's suitable. Although cetirizine is not considered to be harmful in most cases, there have not been sufficient studies to confirm its entirely safe for unborn or breastfed babies. Your doctor may prescribe a different medication that has been more extensively tested during pregnancy. If you are trying to become pregnant, pregnant, or breastfeeding, always ask your doctor for advice before taking Piriteze. Your doctor will weigh the benefit against any potential risk in your particular circumstances and may monitor your treatment more closely.
How is Piriteze different from other allergy tablets like Piriton or loratadine?
Piriteze (cetirizine) is a second-generation antihistamine, meaning it’s less likely to cause drowsiness compared to older ones like Piriton (chlorphenamine). It typically takes effect within an hour and lasts for 24 hours. Piriton works faster in some people but causes more drowsiness. Loratadine is another second-generation option, similar to cetirizine, and has comparable effects, although individual reactions can vary. Some people find one works better than another. If you're unsure what's best for you, ask a pharmacist. They can help you choose one based on your symptoms, lifestyle (like needing to stay alert), and health conditions.
