FlexiSEQ gel is drug-free and available to purchase without a prescription. It is designed to target joint pain and stiffness with the aim of improving joint mobility. It can be used to help with osteoarthritis which is a common form of arthritis.

As FlexiSEQ gels are drug-free, they do not have the same side effects as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) pain relief gels which also makes them safer to use.

FlexiSEQ gels are also unlikely to interact with other medications, and can be a good alternative for people who are unable to use NSAID gels due to their medical conditions or other medications. Two FlexiSEQ gels are available, FlexiSEQ (for Joint Wear & Tear) and FlexiSEQ Max Strength (for Osteoarthritis); the latter is a stronger version explicitly designed for osteoarthritis treatment.

Doctor’s advice

How does it work?

FlexiSEQ gels contain a special formulation that aims to reduce pain and stiffness by hydrating the area around the joints, lubricating any damaged cartilage. It uses Sequessome vesicles that travel directly to the joint to help make a lubricating layer over the damaged cartilage. This helps to protect it from friction and wear and tear when you move around reducing inflammation and pain.

How do I use it?

Unless instructed otherwise by your doctor, you should use FlexiSEQ in the following way:

  1. Apply twice a day in the morning and evening.
  2. If you’re treating a knee, shoulder, or hip, use a line of gel that is the length of your index finger.
  3. If you’re applying the gel to your ankle, wrist or fingers, use a line of gel that is half the length of your index finger.
  4. Apply the gel to the soft tissue around the affected joint, using enough gel to evenly cover the area.
  5. You should not apply the medication to open wounds, broken skin, or infected skin.
  6. After applying the gel, do not rub it in. Instead, leave it to dry before covering the area as this can reduce its ability to be absorbed into the body. The gel should dry within 15 minutes. If it takes longer, reduce the amount you use next time. It will only penetrate through the tissues once it has dried on the skin so it’s important to follow this step correctly.

Does FlexiSEQ work?

There have been studies that have shown FlexiSEQ gels to be effective. One study showed that FlexiSEQ was just as effective at reducing joint pain and stiffness as oral celecoxib (an NSAID).

Applying in the morning and evening can help to reduce joint pain in as little as two days according to the manufacturers. In most cases, it will take around 2 weeks before you start to see noticeable benefits from FlexiSEQ. You should continue to see it improve your pain relief gradually over 12 weeks.

FlexiSEQ Ingredients

Aqua, Phosphatidylcholine, Alcohol, Glycerin, Carbomer, Polysorbate 80, Disodium phosphate, Sodium hydroxide, Benzyl alcohol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Linalool, Disodium EDTA, Sodium phosphate, Sodium metabisulfite, BHT.

Which Flexiseq is the strongest?

There are two FlexiSEQ gels available:

  • FlexiSEQ (for Joint Wear & Tear)
  • FlexiSEQ Max Strength (for Osteoarthritis

The standard version of FlexiSEQ is a suitable treatment for helping people with arthritis. It targets pain caused by arthritis and osteoarthritis by helping to lubricate the joint as opposed to just masking pain like other medicines do.

FlexiSEQ Max Strength (for Osteoarthritis) is the stronger version which is for people with more intense pain and stiffness. This is designed to specifically target pain and swelling as a result of osteoarthritis.

Does FlexiSEQ gel have side effects?

FlexiSEQ gels are unlikely to cause side effects in most people, however there have been reports of it affecting people’s skin in rare cases causing:

  • irritation
  • redness
  • a rash

If used correctly it’s unlikely there will be any side effects but it’s important to only use a small amount of gel and apply it to just the affected area. If you do experience these or any other side effects while using FlexiSEQ, you should stop using it and speak to your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible.

With it being a drug free product, it does not have the same heart and stomach risks common to most pain medications making it a much safer option. It is also usually ok to use it alongside other medicines whether they are for different medical conditions or also to help with osteoarthritis.

Who should not use FlexiSEQ?

As always, do not use the product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in it. FlexiSEQ should not be used by children or when pregnant or breastfeeding unless recommended by your doctor.

If you’re currently taking any other medication, you should also speak to your doctor or a pharmacist to see if it’s safe for you to take FlexiSEQ alongside it.
