Pharmacist FAQs Answered
How often should I use Bonjela Adult Gel?
Apply Bonjela Adult Gel about every three hours. One 1 cm strip will do. If there is persistent pain, reapply but never more frequently than recommended. For denture ulcers, do not place the gel on the denture. Wait at least 30 minutes before reinsertion to allow sufficient absorption.
Is it safe to use while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Bonjela Adult Gel contains choline salicylate, an aspirin-related compound. For this reason, it is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Aspirin can cause damage to both mother and child, so the product must be avoided if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Can children use Bonjela Adult Gel?
This product is not for use by anyone under 16. The danger in this case is Reye's syndrome, a rare but severe illness associated with salicylates such as choline salicylate. This syndrome has the potential to damage the brain and liver, so it's safer to avoid Bonjela if you're using it on a child.
What if I'm allergic to aspirin?
If you are sensitive to aspirin or salicylates, do not use Bonjela. You might be provoked into an allergic response. If you don't know whether you are allergic or not, always check with a doctor before using. The slightest sign of irritation or rash should prompt you to cease the use of the gel at once.
May I use it with other oral therapies?
You can use Bonjela Adult Gel as well as other treatments, but it makes sense not to use them on the same area of the mouth. Mixing treatments could make them less effective or cause irritation. If you are treating something else with mouth ulcers, always ask your pharmacist if they can be used together.
What do I do if it doesn't work?
If the discomfort or pain lasts for more than 7 days, or if the gel is ineffective, it's time to visit your doctor or dentist. They can recommend an alternative remedy or check you out for any underlying conditions. Don't just keep applying the gel and hoping it will get better. Your doctor will know what to do next.
How do I store Bonjela Adult Gel?
Keep Bonjela Adult Gel in a dry, cool place with the cap tightly closed. Do not refrigerate, but keep it away from heat and moisture to preserve its effectiveness. Keep it out of children's reach to avoid accidental ingestion.
