Pharmacist FAQs Answered
Is Bonjela Soothing Teething Gel suitable for under 6 months?
No, this gel is not for infants under 6 months. It's for babies who have started teething, which typically occurs at this age. For infants younger than 6 months, one should first consult a doctor in terms of using any teething gel or the like. They can recommend appropriate alternatives to ease teething pain.
How frequently can I apply the gel to my baby's gums?
Bonjela Soothing Teething Gel can be used 3 to 5 times a day. It is most effective if used after meals and before sleeping. The gel should ideally be applied after meals to ensure the protective layer over the gums hardens, thereby providing longer relief. Be gentle while applying the gel to the affected area, and avoid using it frequently—use only as directed for maximum safety and effectiveness.
How do I apply the gel correctly?
To apply the gel, first wash your hands and use a clean finger.
Then, put a small amount of gel (just enough to cover the sore area) into your baby's gums.
Massage it in gently so that the gel is distributed evenly over the sore area.
This will help the gel create a protective film that soothes the gums and relieves discomfort. Upon usage, make sure to tightly close the cap in order to maintain the integrity of the product.
What side effects can you expect while using this gel?
Bonjela Soothing Teething Gel is usually safe when used as directed. However, some babies may be allergic to one of the ingredients, e.g., irritation or rash. If you notice any signs of irritation, e.g., redness, swelling, or pain increasing, stop use of the gel immediately and see your doctor or pharmacist. If your baby experiences any signs of a severe allergic reaction (e.g., shortness of breath, swelling of the face or mouth), seek medical help immediately.
Can I use Bonjela Soothing Teething Gel with other treatments?
Bonjela Teething Gel will not likely interact with other mouth teething products. However, it is always best to consult your doctor or pharmacist first before taking more than one teething product simultaneously. Some teething remedies or gels contain similar ingredients, which may lead to overuse of active ingredients like glycerine or xylitol, so it's best to search for duplication. Your pharmacist can tell you the best and safest way to manage your baby's teething symptoms.
What should I do if my baby's symptoms don't get better?
If you find that your baby's teething signs persist or increase even after applying Bonjela Soothing Teething Gel, you should visit your health professional. Perhaps your baby may require more care or a different treatment process. The doctor will examine your baby's overall health and teething development and recommend other pain relief processes or even perform other tests to ascertain what could be causing the discomfort.
How do I store the gel to maintain its effectiveness?
To maintain the effectiveness of Bonjela Soothing Teething Gel, store it in a dry, cool area.
Please do not leave it under direct sunlight, and never put it in the fridge or freezer, as this can dull the consistency and performance of the product.
Keep the gel in a place lower than 25°C.
After opening, the product is usable for 30 days.
Dispose of unused gel after this period to avoid using an expired product.
Do I use this gel if my baby has an allergy?
If your baby has known allergies, particularly to any of the ingredients in Bonjela Soothing Teething Gel, do not use it. Always check the list of ingredients on the packaging for any potential allergens. Common allergens in teething products can include ingredients like glycerine, xylitol, or natural extracts. If you’re unsure whether this product is safe for your baby, consult your doctor or pharmacist before use.
