Pharmacist FAQs Answered

What are Brolene Eye Drops used for?

Brolene Eye Drops are used primarily to treat mild eye infections, redness or inflamed eyes, and infections such as stickiness or crusting around the eyes. They work by inhibiting the growth of bacteria, allowing your body's natural defence mechanism to clear the infection. It is similar to braking to slow down an unwanted driver to allow your body to take over and heal the disease.

How do I use Brolene Eye Drops?

To put in Brolene Eye Drops, first wash your hands. This will stop you from putting more bacteria into your eyes. Remove the cap from the bottle and slightly tilt your head back. Then squeeze one or two drops into the lower eyelid, ensuring the dropper does not touch your eye or skin, to maintain sterility. You can use the drops four times a day but for at least 2 days. If your symptoms worsen or do not improve after this period, consult your local healthcare professional.

Can I wear contact lenses when using Brolene Eye Drops?

If you wear contact lenses, you should remove them before applying Brolene Eye Drops. The drops may alter the soft lenses and lead to a change in colour and clarity. Allow at least 15 minutes after you have applied the drops before you insert your contact lenses again. This will enable the drops to function without any obstruction from your lenses.

What do I do if I have an allergic reaction to the drops?

You may very rarely be allergic to Brolene Eye Drops. The symptoms can include skin rashes, swallowing or breathing difficulties, and lips, face, throat, or eye swelling. If you experience any of these symptoms, discontinue use of the drops immediately and consult a doctor. You need to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to anything, especially propamidine isethionate, which is the active ingredient of these drops.

Can I use Brolene Eye Drops if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

If you are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, you must consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Brolene Eye Drops. While the drops are safe to use for short periods, your doctor will balance the risks and benefits of using the drops in your situation. It is always best to exercise caution with the use of medicines in pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Can I drive after using Brolene Eye Drops?

Brolene Eye Drops can blur your vision shortly after applying the drops. If this happens, do not drive or operate machinery until your vision is clear again. This is for your safety to prevent accidents, as your eyesight will be temporarily affected.

What do I do if the drops don't seem to be working?

If you don't feel any improvement after two days of treatment with Brolene Eye Drops, or if your symptoms worsen, you should consult your doctor or pharmacist. This could indicate that the infection is not reacting to the treatment, and you may need a different treatment or further investigation.

How should I store Brolene Eye Drops?

To preserve the effectiveness of Brolene Eye Drops, keep them under 25°C in a dry, cool place. Keep the bottle out of children's reach. Once opened, use the drops within 4 weeks. Use the drops within 7 days in a hospital, as they are more likely to be contaminated in such an environment.

Can I use Brolene Eye Drops with other eye medications?

If you already take other eye medications, consulting with your doctor or pharmacist before taking multiple treatments is a good idea. Brolene Eye Drops can interact with other medicines, especially if they are also being taken to treat eye infections. Your healthcare provider can recommend how to take alternative treatments safely.
