Pharmacist FAQs Answered
How does Enterosgel clean out the gut and support digestive health?
Enterosgel is like a bright sponge in your gut. It's an organic mineral that captures harmful substances, such as toxins, allergens, viruses, and unwanted bacteria, while allowing the good stuff your body needs to pass through. The unwanted stuff then naturally passes out of your body after binding. This decreases swelling in your stomach and intestines, so it is a successful treatment for diarrhoea, bloating, IBS, indigestion, and food allergies. It is not absorbed into your blood like other medicines, so it only works in the gut.
Can Enterosgel be used for children and babies?
Yes, Enterosgel is safe for children as young as 1 year old, but use the proper dose based on your child's age. Children aged 3 to 14 can take it safely according to the quantities stated on the package. For infants and toddlers younger than 3, it is recommended to consult with a physician beforehand. Enterosgel does not contain toxic additives, nor is it sugar-free, gluten-free, or free from flavour or sweeteners. Therefore, it is suitable for children with food intolerance or allergy.
How should I take Enterosgel and when?
To take Enterosgel, shake the tube, squeeze the necessary amount into a glass, and add water or juice at room temperature. Drink it 1 to 2 hours before or after food or medication. This timing helps it work better by avoiding interference with digestion or the absorption of medicine. It's best to take Enterosgel three times a day as directed for diarrhoea or gut upset until your symptoms improve. Always follow the dosage instructions based on age, and don’t exceed the recommended daily amount.
Is Enterosgel safe to use when pregnant or lactating?
Yes, Enterosgel is safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Since it only acts in the gut and is not absorbed into the bloodstream, there is minimal risk to your baby. However, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding and have ongoing digestive problems or diarrhoea, it's always best to talk to your pharmacist or GP first, just to make sure it's the right treatment for your symptoms.
Is there anybody who should not take Enterosgel or any side effects?
Most people tolerate Enterosgel well, but some can get minor side effects like nausea, vomiting, or constipation. Don't use Enterosgel if you have intestinal atony—a potentially life-threatening situation when your gut muscle isn't working right, which blocks up your bowel. Also, if you have ever had any kind of problem with Enterosgel, including intolerance or an allergy, you must not retake it. Always check the label and consult with your pharmacist if in doubt.
May Enterosgel be used alongside other medications?
Yes, but timing is essential. Enterosgel may reduce the absorption of certain medications if taken at the same time. To avoid this, take your medicine 1–2 hours before or after using Enterosgel. This gives your body time to absorb the medication properly without interference. If you’re taking daily medication or have a complex treatment plan, it’s a good idea to check with your pharmacist or doctor for personalised advice.
How should I store Enterosgel after opening the tube?
After opening the tube, keep Enterosgel at room temperature (4–25ºC) and do not freeze. Keep the cap tightly closed to avoid drying out. As long as it is stored correctly, you can reuse the same tube for 30 days after opening. Always check the packaging for the expiry date before use to ensure the product is safe and effective.
