Pharmacist FAQs Answered

What is Eurax Cream used for?

Eurax Cream is a quick relief for itching and skin irritation caused by a wide range of conditions. These are:

  • Itchy dermatitis
  • Dry eczema
  • Allergic rashes and hives
  • Chickenpox (for reassurance spots after scabbing)
  • Heat rash and sunburn
  • Insect bites and stings
  • Personal or intimate itching

Its active ingredient, Crotamiton (10% w/w), calms itching and discomfort for up to 6 to 10 hours. It has cooling and anti-itch effects, making it a trusted option for fast relief.

How do I use Eurax Cream, and how often should I use it?

Eurax is simple to use. For adults and children aged three and above, apply a thin layer to the affected area 2-3 times a day. Gently massage it in until fully absorbed. Relief should last between 6 and 10 hours.

Always wash your hands after application (except when treating them) and do not use this product on broken or weeping skin. If itching or irritation does not improve in a few days or worsens, it's best to advise your doctor.

For children under 3, consult a doctor before use.

Is Eurax Cream suitable for use on intimate itching?

Eurax can be used for external itching, but consult your pharmacist or doctor first, especially if you are breastfeeding or the itching is persistent or unexplained. Avoid applying the cream to sensitive areas like around the genitals or nipples if nursing, as these areas are more prone to irritation.

Is Eurax safe to use on chickenpox or eczema?

Yes, Eurax can be used to prevent itching of chickenpox and dry eczema, but with caution:

To avoid irritating the spots further, use chickenpox only when they have dried and are no longer weeping.

For eczema, Eurax can help prevent itching when the skin is dry, but should not be used on broken or cracked skin.

For young children or bad eczema, ask your doctor first.

Can I use Eurax during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

It's not recommended during pregnancy. If you're breastfeeding, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using the cream and avoid using it near the breast area. These preventive measures prevent the baby from ingesting the cream through suckling.

Are there any warnings or side effects that I should be aware of?

Eurax is usually well-tolerated, but some individuals may develop skin irritation or allergic reactions, like all medications. If you experience redness, stinging, rash, or any other unusual symptoms, discontinue use of the cream and consult your doctor. Do not apply the cream to your eyes, mouth, or on inflamed or broken skin.

In case of accidental swallowing, seek medical attention at once.
