Pharmacist FAQs Answered
Why and how does Flexitol Heel Balm prevent cracked heels?
Cracked, dry heels are usually caused by very dry skin or pressure on your feet. Standing for long hours, walking barefoot, or wearing open-back shoes can worsen it. Flexitol Heel Balm treats it by deeply moisturising your skin with 25% urea, a powerful ingredient that draws water into dry skin. It melts hard spots, promotes healing of fissures, and leaves behind a smoother surface that is less likely to crack again.
Can Flexitol Heel Balm be used on the rest of the body?
Flexitol is designed for heels and feet because the skin on these areas is thicker and harder than any other area. It's not suitable for sensitive skin, such as on your face or hands. Use on different parts of the body can be irritating or too harsh, especially on sensitive skin. If dryness is felt in another area, look for a moisturiser for that specific area.
Is Flexitol Heel Balm safe to use if I have diabetes?
Yes, Flexitol Heel Balm is safe to use on individuals with diabetes, which is handy since diabetes is known to cause very dry, cracked feet. If you do have diabetic foot conditions such as open wounds, ulcers, or infections, however, it's best to speak with a podiatrist or doctor first before you apply any cream. This balm is beneficial for preventing the formation of cracks but is not meant to be applied to open or infected skin.
What can I do if I have painful, bleeding, cracked heels?
If your heels are painful, infected, or bleeding, Flexitol may sting when applied and is not necessarily the best first step. You would lightly clean the area, avoid walking barefoot, and consult your GP or pharmacist in such a case. Deep cracks will require special treatment or potentially even prescription medication to heal safely and prevent infection.
How soon can I expect results from using Flexitol Heel Balm?
The majority of people see noticeable improvement within one day, mainly if you apply it twice a day, in the morning and at night. However, for best results, use it daily for up to 2 weeks. If your skin has not improved within 14 days, you should see a pharmacist or doctor. Once your heels are smooth again, you can change to a daily moisturiser like Flexitol Moisturising Foot Cream to keep your skin healthy and soft.
Can I wear socks or shoes straight away after applying Flexitol?
You can, but be careful! The skin may feel slippery if you've applied a lot of Flexitol. It's best to wait a few minutes to let the balm absorb before wearing socks or walking. This avoids slipping and keeps the cream on your skin where it's needed most.
