Pharmacist FAQs Answered

What are GoldenEye 0.1% Eye Drops used for?

GoldenEye 0.1% Eye Drops are used to manage mild bacterial infections and irritations of the eye. These include conjunctivitis (also known as "pink eye"), blepharitis (eyelid inflammation), and sticky eye. The active ingredient, propamidine isetionate, is an antiseptic that works by destroying bacteria on the eye surface. If there is no symptom improvement within 2 days, or if they get worse, it is required to stop using the drops and seek advice from a doctor or pharmacist.

How do I use GoldenEye Eye Drops correctly?

To put in the drops:

  • Wash your hands before and after using them.
  • Remove the cap from the bottle.
  • Tilt your head back and gently pull your lower eyelid down to create a small pocket.
  • Hold the bottle near your eye without touching it, pinch your eyelids together and squeeze 1–2 drops.
  • Do the same for the other eye if necessary.
  • Apply the drops no more than 4 times a day, with at least 3 to 4 hours between applications.

After application, your vision will be blurry for some time. Wait until your vision is clear before you drive or operate machinery.

Can I use GoldenEye drops with my contact lenses?

No. Do not wear contact lenses while you are applying GoldenEye Eye Drops. The drops also contain benzalkonium chloride, a preservative which can damage lenses and also irritate your eyes. If you normally wear lenses, wear glasses whilst treating. Wait for at least 24 hours after you have completed the treatment before you use your contact lenses again, or seek advice from your optician.

Are GoldenEye Eye Drops safe in pregnancy or breastfeeding?

No, GoldenEye 0.1% Eye Drops should not be used in pregnancy, if you are intending to become pregnant, or during breastfeeding, unless advised by a healthcare professional. Discontinue the treatment and consult your doctor if you become pregnant while taking the drops. As a rule, it is always preferable to discuss medication in pregnancy or breastfeeding with either your pharmacist or GP.

What side effects do I need to watch out for?

Most people find GoldenEye Eye Drops easy to use and do not have any problems. However, side effects can be:

  • Mild irritation or stinging in the eyes
  • Blurred vision immediately after application (usually temporary)
  • Increased sensitivity or allergic response, but this is rare

If you experience worsening symptoms, such as increased redness, pain, or swelling, or if the eye becomes more irritated, stop using the drops and speak with a healthcare professional.

How do I store and dispose of the drops?

  • Store the bottle below 25°C and securely tighten the cap when not being used.
  • Discard the bottle 4 weeks after first opening, even if some still remains.
  • Do not use the drops after the expiry date.
  • Out of sight and reach of children.

Do not throw medicines in household rubbish. Ask your pharmacist how to throw them away correctly in order to safeguard the environment.
