Product Summary

Regaine Solution is a treatment for men experiencing hereditary hair loss. It is clinically proven to prevent hair loss, strengthen existing hair and encourage new hair to grow.

  • This works through the 5% concentration of minoxidil, a medicinal ingredient that begins to work upon direct contact with your scalp.
  • It increases the supply of blood and nutrients to your hair follicles.
  • This reinvigorates the shrunken follicles, stimulating re-growth and increasing any existing hair shaft diameter.
  • As a result, your hair can re-grow quicker and stronger over time, appearing thicker and healthier.

Is it right for me?

Regaine is suitable for you if you:

  • suffer from hereditary hair loss. This can range from a general thinning of hair on the top of your scalp to a receding hairline
  • are looking for a non-hormonal treatment that has been clinically proven to keep and re-grow hair
  • Need an easy solution that can fit into your daily grooming routine and provide you with a 3-month supply.

Directions

For full instructions please real the information leaflet enclosed in the box.

Male adults aged 18 to 49 years

  • On a completely dry scalp and hair, apply a dose of 1 g (equivalent to the volume of half a capful) to the total affected area twice daily.
  • Leave at least 12 hours between each use.
  • Do not exceed 2 g in a day.
  • Do not use more than twice a day.
  • You may need to use this medicine twice daily for at least 8 weeks before you see new hair growth. This is because hair growth is a slow process.
  • Hair growth may be soft and downy at the start but should eventually become the same as normal hair.
  • Once the hair has begun to re-grow, you need to continue using this medicine twice a day for the growth to continue.
  • If you have no improvement in your hair growth after 16 weeks of use, you should discontinue treatment.
  • Clinical trials on Regaine® Foam efficacy have not been carried out beyond 16 weeks.
  • If at any time during your treatment you are concerned you should consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Pharmacist FAQs Answered

Can I use Regaine with other hair dressing products like gel or wax?

You may use hair dressing products like gel, wax, or mousse after Regaine Foam application, but apply the foam first. Let it soak in fully into your scalp—this will take around 20 minutes—before applying other products. This ensures Regaine has the best chance of working effectively at the root of your hair. Don't apply styling products straight onto the scalp where the foam has been applied, as this could dampen its efficiency. Always wash your hands after applying Regaine and before getting in contact with styling products so as not to transfer the medicine, inadvertently, to areas of the body that don't require it.

What happens if I stop taking Regaine?

If you stop taking Regaine after new hair is growing, then the new hair will gradually shed over 3 to 4 months. Regaine's mechanism of action is to stimulate hair follicles continuously, so stopping treatment starves your hair follicles of the stimulation that keeps them healthy. What it means is your hair will have been reset to where it was before you started treatment. To prevent loss of new growth, you'll have to keep using the foam as directed—twice daily, each day. If it is not possible to stop, consult your pharmacist to determine whether there are other options available or other reasons why you must stop.

How does Regaine affect different hair types and textures?

Regaine is suitable for all hair types and textures since it works on the scalp and not the hair itself. Irrespective of whether your hair is straight, curly, thick, or fine, the active ingredient—minoxidil—stimulates hair growth by increasing blood flow to the hair follicles. But results will vary based on your heredity, the age you start using it, and how often you use the foam. Those with thin or thinning hair might see new hair growth quicker, while those with thick or curly hair might see texture of hair that grows back becomes more blended. Regaine will not change your own hair colour or wave type.

Will Regaine treat a receding hairline?

Regaine is typically targeted towards the crown of the scalp, where it has been proven to be most effective. Its effectiveness against a receding hairline is less well-proven. A few customers will see enhanced hairline regions, but this cannot be anticipated. Because the hairline has fewer active follicles and is the area most resistant to treatment, variability can be phenomenal. If you are particularly interested in treating a receding hairline, you should see a doctor or pharmacist for realistic expectations and to find out about other treatments such as oral medication or hair transplanting.

Is Regaine safe for long-term use over many years?

Yes, Regaine is generally safe in the longer term if used exactly as directed. It can be used by most men with no side effects for years, as long as it is applied to grow or keep hair. Medical research shows that minoxidil is effective for many years, as long as you apply it regularly. Like any drug, however, do keep watching your scalp for an indication of irritation or an adverse effect. Let your pharmacist or physician know if you notice anything unusual. You also need to keep to the dose recommended—increasing the amount doesn't make it more effective and can lead to unnecessary side effects, such as skin irritation or increased heart rate.

Will shaving my head make Regaine work any better?

Shaving your head doesn't make Regaine work any better. The foam acts on the hair follicles within the scalp rather than the hair that can be seen on top. You can use it on a shaved or a full head, just as long as the scalp is clean and dry beforehand. Really, having some hair might be easier to figure out where to place the foam, but too much hair does make it more difficult to spread evenly. If you prefer a shaved head for convenience, that's fine—just be careful not to apply the foam on freshly cut or shaved skin to avoid irritation.

Is Regaine okay to use after hair transplant or surgery?

Regaine can sometimes be recommended by physicians after a hair transplant to help with the stimulation of hair growth and also to prevent hair loss from resuming. It is not to be used right after surgery, however. Most doctors recommend waiting until the scalp has fully healed, anything up to several weeks. Applying Regaine too early can irritate or interfere with healing. Always speak to your surgeon or pharmacist before starting or restarting treatment. Having been cleared to do so, using Regaine as part of post-transplant treatment will assist in keeping both transplanted and native hair by maintaining open follicles and stimulated.
