Product Summary

Unlike medicines that help relieve cold symptoms, First Defence Nasal Spray works at the first signs of a cold by targeting the viruses to help stop the cold in its tracks before the symptoms get worse.

How does it work?

When used at the first signs of a cold, First Defence Nasal Spray acts at the back of the nose directly where the cold virus takes hold and starts to develop.

It traps, inactivates and helps your body naturally remove the cold virus before it develops into a full blown cold.

Suitable for adults and children over 12 years of age

FAQs Answered by Pharmacists: First Defence Nasal Spray for Early Cold Relief

What is First Defence Nasal Spray used for?

First Defence Nasal Spray is designed to be used at the very first signs of a cold, such as a sore throat tickle, sneezing, or a runny nose. Unlike medicines that relieve symptoms later, this spray works early to stop cold viruses from multiplying, helping to prevent the cold from getting worse.

How does First Defence work to stop a cold?

First Defence acts in the back of the nose where cold viruses typically begin. It traps and inactivates the viruses, helping your body remove them naturally. The spray creates a barrier that prevents the virus from spreading, which can stop the cold from developing further.

When should I use First Defence?

Use First Defence as soon as you feel the first signs of a cold—ideally within 24–36 hours of symptoms starting. Apply 2–3 sprays in each nostril up to 4 times a day, and continue for 2 days after symptoms go away for best results.

Can children use First Defence?

First Defence Nasal Spray is only suitable for adults and children aged 12 years and over. It should not be used in younger children unless advised by a healthcare professional.

What side effects might I experience?

It’s common to have a runny nose or a temporary stinging or tingling sensation after use. This means the product is working and is not harmful. These effects usually don’t last long.

Can I use First Defence with other cold medications?

Yes, First Defence can generally be used alongside other cold remedies like paracetamol or throat lozenges. However, it should not be used with other nasal sprays unless advised by a pharmacist or doctor.

Are there any ingredients I should be aware of?

First Defence contains ingredients like menthol, camphor, and zinc salts. These help trap and neutralise viruses but may cause irritation in some people. If you have a known sensitivity or allergy, check the full ingredient list on the box or leaflet before use.

Is it safe to use during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

There is limited data available, so if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your pharmacist or doctor before using First Defence.

How should I store First Defence?

Keep the bottle upright and store it below 25°C. Avoid direct sunlight and keep it out of reach of children.
