Pharmacist FAQs Answered

How does Wind-eze Gentle Action relieve trapped wind?

Wind-Eze Gentle Action Soft Gel Capsules contain Simeticone, a medication specially designed to relieve trapped wind and bloating.

Simeticone relieves trapped wind by breaking down the tiny gas bubbles in your stomach and intestines.
Once these bubbles dissolve, the gas can be easily exhaled from your body, either naturally or by being absorbed, which takes away the pressure, pain, and discomfort of bloating.

Because it acts physically (not chemically), it's incredibly gentle on your body and won't be absorbed into your bloodstream.

How long before Wind-eze capsules start to work?

Most people find that Wind-eze capsules begin to work within 30 minutes to an hour after swallowing them.

However, how quickly you get relief is determined by:

  • The amount of trapped wind you have
  • When you swallow the capsule (ideally after meals and before bed)
  • How sensitive your stomach is

In order to get the maximum benefit, closely adhering to the dosage, swallowing the capsule after meals as symptoms tend to occur is the key.

Am I allowed to take Wind-eze daily when I become bloated?

Wind-eze capsules should only be used for short-term, occasional relief of symptoms of trapped wind and bloating.

They can be taken safely if used as directed, but if you need to use them repeatedly for more than 14 days, you should consult your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Repeated bloating is sometimes a sign of:

Bloating that lasts for a long period should be investigated to ensure you're treating the cause, not just the symptoms.

Are there foods or lifestyle habits that increase the risk of trapped wind?

Some foods and habits increase the likelihood of trapped wind.

To avoid bloating and the need for treatments like Wind-eze, you can:

  • Avoid carbonated drinks like soda
  • Cut down on beans, lentils, broccoli, cabbage, and onions (they cause more gas)
  • Chew food well and eat slowly
  • Don't chew gum, which makes you swallow more air
  • Stay active with regular exercise or gentle movement, which keeps your digestive system in better working order

By making a few lifestyle changes, you may find that you don't need Wind-eze as often.

Can I take Wind-eze with other common medicines?

In general, Wind-eze (Simeticone) can be taken safely with a very broad range of other medications.

There are important exceptions, however:

  • Levothyroxine (thyroid disease): Simeticone can decrease the amount of levothyroxine your body takes in. If you are taking both, take them several hours apart.
  • Mineral oil laxatives: These should not be taken with Wind-eze, since they interact negatively.

Suppose you're already taking any regular medications, especially for thyroid problems, heart problems, or gastrointestinal problems. In that case, discussing with your pharmacist or doctor before making Wind-eze a regular remedy is best.
