Strepsils are a brand of lozenge available used to treat throat and mouth infections. It contains an antiseptic ingredient used to help fight infection. Strepsils are also available as Strepsils Extra triple action, which also contain a local anaesthetic and soothing formula to treat pain and a tickly cough. Other forms of Strepsils may also be found, including Strepsils with vitamin C and Strepsils with a sore throat and blocked nose.

Who is it for?

It can treat mouth and throat infections from six years onwards. One lozenge should be dissolved slowly in the mouth at a time and repeated every 2-3 hours, with up to a maximum of 12 lozenges a day as needed. Stick to the lowest dose needed.

How does it work?

Strepsils can help relieve the severity of mouth and throat infections and speed up recovery. Stepsils contain the active ingredients: 2-4 Dichlorobenzyl alcohol and amylmetacresol, antiseptics that are active against bacterial and viral infections. Using an oral lozenge form, the active ingredient works directly at the site of infection. Strepsils can help relieve the severity of mouth and throat infections and speed up recovery.

Should anybody not it

Do not take Strepsils if you have any allergy or sensitivity to the ingredients listed. Strepsils contain sugar, so the excessive use of Strepsils should be avoided in diabetic patients. There is not enough evidence for using Strepsils in pregnancy, so it should be avoided if possible.

Are there any side effects?

Strepsils may cause a hypersensitive reaction ranging from mild symptoms such as an itchy rash to more serious but rare reactions like anaphylaxis. Discontinue use and seek medical attention.
