Pharmacist FAQs Answered

What are Anusol HC Suppositories used for?

Anusol HC Suppositories alleviate the pain, inflammation, and discomfort of internal piles (haemorrhoids). They contain hydrocortisone, a gentle steroid that reduces inflammation, zinc oxide, bismuth salts, and other ingredients that soothe and guard the region. They don't cure piles but can manage the symptoms, such as itching and pain.

Who May Use Anusol HC Suppositories?

Anusol HC Suppositories can be used by adults over the age of 18 years. Anusol HC Suppositories are not meant for children, teenagers, or individuals with fungal, viral, or bacterial sores on the skin. You should consult a doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The body will absorb hydrocortisone in such cases.

How Do You Use Anusol HC Suppositories?

Insert one suppository into the anus at night, in the morning, and after each bowel movement. Do not use more than three each day. If you forget a dose, have it as soon as you remember, but do not take two to make up for a missed one. Insert the suppository far enough so that it will stay in place but not too hard.

When Should You Seek Medical Advice?

If your symptoms don't settle after 7 days of treatment or worsen, speak to a doctor or pharmacist. If you experience any bleeding from the back passage or blood in your stool, you should contact a professional immediately. Do not use the suppositories if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if you have any skin infections.

Additional Tips for Managing Piles

To reduce the risk of developing piles or prevent flare-ups, consider a high-fibre diet, drink plenty of water, and avoid straining during bowel movements. Staying active and limiting time spent sitting on the toilet can also help. If you’re unsure about the best treatment for your condition, speak to your pharmacist for advice.
