Pharmacist FAQs Answered

Why should talcum powder only be applied on dry skin?

To get best results from Cuticura Mildly Medicated Talcum Powder, always apply it to clean, dry skin. The powder is designed to absorb excess moisture such as sweat. If the skin is damp when applied, the powder will cake and its effectiveness in calming itching or chafing will be lost. Applying on dry skin helps it form a smooth protective cover for long-lasting comfort.

What is zinc oxide, and how does it treat skin irritation?

Zinc oxide is a mineral used in nearly all skin care products as it forms a protective, calming shield on the skin. In Cuticura Talcum Powder, it calms sore skin, reduces swelling, and protects against sweat rash or mild infections of the skin. It is especially useful in people who suffer from eczema, heat rash, or friction sores because it helps dry up the skin and protect it from further irritation.

What is allantoin do in medicated talcum powder?

Allantoin is a calmative soothing active that makes it possible for your skin to repair itself sooner and feel softer. It works through gently shedding the dry damaged dead skin cells and encouraging fresh new healthy skin growth in their position. Allantoin does not irritate skin and can be used for sensitive skin and hence is a very significant active present in powders meant to smooth out dryness, itch, or cracked skin.

Can I use the talcum powder with moisturiser?

Yes, but use them at separate times. Start off with using your moisturiser and allow it to soak in to your skin properly. Afterwards, about 30 minutes later or so, apply the talcum powder. Having both on that close will prevent the powder from working, especially if the skin is still moist from the lotion. The two are separated in order to ensure that each can work effectively.

Is Cuticura Talcum Powder safe for use on sensitive skin?

Cuticura Mildly Medicated Talcum Powder does have a faint fragrance, but it has been dermatologically tested to ensure that it's mild. The fragrance is designed to be non-irritating, even for those with eczema-prone or sensitive skin. However, if you have fragrance allergy or have reacted previously, you might want to try a small amount first.

Is Cuticura Talcum Powder suitable to apply to children?

You can apply this to older children, but not infants or children under 3. Talcum powder is finely powdery, and if inhaled accidentally, will cause breathing problems. When applying to children, first apply to your hands away from the face, then rub gently onto the skin.

Does Cuticura protect against fungal infection or athlete's foot?

While not an antifungal medication, this powder keeps the skin fungal infections like athlete's foot or prickly heat from developing by drying out skin and reducing rubbing. Fungi thrive in hot, moist environments. By absorbing sweat and calming irritation, Cuticura helps to establish conditions that make it harder for infections to start.
