Pharmacist FAQs Answered
Why are CanesOasis sachets utilised?
CanesOasis Cystitis Relief Sachets are designed to provide relief from the pain and discomfort of mild urinary tract infections (UTIs), including cystitis, in adult women. They ease the burning or stinging you might feel when you pass water. The sachets have sodium citrate, which reduces the acidity of your urine. This change calms the bladder's lining and minimises the irritation, giving temporary relief while your body fights the infection or until you can see a doctor.
How do I use CanesOasis?
Mix one sachet with a glass of water, stir thoroughly, and take immediately. Take three times daily for two days. Do not exceed directed dose, and do not re-take the course unless directed to do so by your doctor. If the symptoms last longer than 48 hours, or if you develop other symptoms including fever or haematuria, see your doctor.
Can children or men take CanesOasis?
No. The product is intended for use in women 18 years and older. Men or children should not take it, even when the symptoms seem the same. Men with urinary symptoms are always advised to consult a healthcare provider for proper evaluation.
Can I take CanesOasis if I'm pregnant or nursing?
No, not during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you are pregnant or wish to become pregnant and think you have cystitis, discuss this with your GP or midwife before taking anything.
Who cannot take CanesOasis?
Do not take CanesOasis if you:
- Have heart disease
- Are you suffering from high blood pressure, kidney disease, or diabetes
- Are on a low-sodium diet
- Are you allergic to sodium citrate or any other ingredient
- Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18 years of age
If you're not sure, speak with a pharmacist or GP first before taking the sachets.
What drugs can interact with CanesOasis?
CanesOasis can interfere with the way some drugs work. Don't take it if you take:
- Lithium, commonly used for mood disorders
- Methenamine, to treat or prevent UTIs
If you take any other drugs, even pharmacy ones, it's safest to speak with your pharmacist first.
What is in each sachet of CanesOasis?
4.0 g sachet includes sodium citrate dihydrate for neutralisation of urine acidity. The remaining ingredients are:
- Sucrose (1.5 g per sachet)
- Colloidal anhydrous silica
- Saccharin sodium
- Cranberry flavouring
If you have diabetes or you need to avoid sugar, ask your pharmacist for alternatives.
How do I store CanesOasis sachets?
Store the sachets in a dry, cool location, below 25°C, away from direct sunlight. Don't use the sachets if the pack is past its expiry date. Keep them out of reach of children, even though the box might look like it's a food product.
